The Road to Miami - Sept. 6, 2008

Yesterday we had to pick up some items at the store; afterwards we were so tired from our previous day at Epcot that we sat down 'for a few minutes' after lunch and were asleep for 2 hours! Then we drove to Clearwater just to see what it was all about - there are some impressive older homes in the area. Besides preparing dinner and doing laundry, that was about all for the day. We have only used the gas stove burner once in this whole trip - it's way too hot to cook inside. Ernie BBQ's and we have salads or sometimes BBQ'd corn on the cob. We also usually pick up a loaf of a 'good bread' (which is not always easy to find in some parts of the country).
Today we packed our bags, buttoned up the RV and headed south to Miami. It was an uneventful drive, altho we travelled part of the way on what is called 'alligator alley' to get here. It's swamp and miles of vegetation inhabited by alligators. Ernie was talking to someone who told him that before a fence was erected to keep the gators off the roadway, they would cross the hiway from one side to another - that must have been quite a sight. We saw no such thing (ok by me).
Arrived at the Sofitel Hotel (French owned - who knew...); they have hotels in other parts of the country too. It's quite nice and roomy. Tomorrow we drive to the Port of Miami and board the boat - we plan to get there around 12:30 pm and the boat leaves at 4 pm.
We've been monitoring Hurricane Ike very closely.
So Bon Voyage and we hope we can keep our blog going on the ship; we think we can get an internet connection on board. - Joyce
